A highly educational and visually stunning 9.5 feet long, five range of motion, 3 finger Giant Robot Arm exhibit designed to illustrate remote handling applications for robotics. The exhibit is view-able from all sides making it an ideal mid-floor device. The arm has pressure sensitive and end of travel limits, and can adapt to any arrangement of objects stacked in its path. This arm is totally open framed for educational viewing, which relates to STEM, and is especially designed with safety features and force limits. The arm is usable for any age range of visitor. It is made of light weight 6061 Aluminum. The cubes are made of colored foam material to reduce impact stresses between arm and base panel. The swing of the arm creates a theoretical null spot on each side. To compensate for this, clear rectangular shapes tilt any blocks that land in a null spot to a reachable angle. This is also done directly around the shoulder pivots. The arm is protected by limit controls and spring loaded for shock. The limit controls use simple logic to avoid over travel, as opposed to expensive and hard to repair computer guided systems. The fingers operate by pressing a push switch. The exhibit provides hands on activities based on Robotic Manipulation technology which encompasses devices for transmitting movements to a remote robotic device, allowing the manipulation of objects that are too heavy, dangerous, small, or in other respects too difficult to handle directly. Remote handling robots are used by industry, aerospace and commercial establishments to extend human capabilities in hazardous situations. This complete exhibit includes an electronic-electromechanical robot arm, fully enclosed exhibit case for the arm, support electronics, visual support materials, maintenance information and schedule, activities and control panel.
