MRISAR's Working Ion Engine, Airfoil, Rocket Engine Exhibit
Visitors operate the controls to adjust the flow of ions through the engine. The fuel is ionized ambient air charged with additional electrons. The thrust it provides is very tiny, but enough to show that it is in operation. The ion charge in the air is then neutralized and circulated to charge again. This is a simplified rendering showing an engine array and ionizing electrodes entering the array. Also included is a working model of a rocket engine (air driven), a propeller and an airfoil with air current to render the action of the airfoil visible to the exhibit users.
Approximate size of exhibit is; 35" wide x 76" long x 72" high. As with all of our interactive exhibits this exhibit also conveys a wide variety of elements that are important to STEM education.
