Science & Tech Art Exhibits
Stroboscope; Interactive Exhibit
A Stroboscopic illusion device. We originally designed & fabricated this exhibit for museums in 1993. It is an exciting educational exhibit that delights both young and old. This exhibit incorporates the use of a rotating disk, speed control and low power strobe circuit to illustrate many of the potential uses for strobe lights and stroboscopic effects. The device includes text on the case explaining the applications for strobes in safety, photographic, mechanical and illusion devices. Although the Stroboscope comes with the above described optical illusion disk, addition disks can be ordered, so that you can have a different stroboscopic effects image by simply changing disks. The advantage of this is in supplying your museum or center visitors with a variation. The exhibit operates on a grounded 120 V AC outlet. A Solar powered version is available at no additional cost. Additional disks are for sale and come in their own storage case. They range from scientific principles to simple entertainment images. 2’ x 2’ footprint. Available in a wide range of color options (included as part of the exhibit cost). Selections consist of standard colors in Wilsonart, Formica, Pionite, Nevamar. Options for almost any application. Please use the form at the bottom of this page or email your color preferences. We do not include metal laminates in the base price. For specialized types outside of standard color ranges contact us for a specific quote. Click here for more information and images!

Directions: Slowly bring your hand down over a black disk. When you get close to it, it will trigger lights and sounds. Each black disk triggers a different tone or when triggered in combination they will produce much deeper tones. This also triggers changes in the light spectrum of the central acrylic column. How it works! The device in the center of each black disk is a photo-resistor. It is connected to a circuit which turns on a light and an oscillator which produces a sound. We originally designed and fabricated a version of this exhibit for museums in 1993. It is an exciting educational exhibit that delights both young and old. It is of moderate weight for portability, easy to use and extremely durable. The five-sided design makes it adaptable to fill inner floor spaces and to work with both single users and groups. This exhibit demonstrates sound synthesis, sensors and light control, alternative energy, sensory inputs, reactionary effects in electronic systems, timing and randomizing theory, visual and wave length specific electromagnetic emissions, photons, sound synthesis, frequency and amplitude, and acoustics. Size is 36" diameter x 36" high. Available in a wide range of color options (included as part of the exhibit cost). Selections consist of standard colors in Wilsonart, Formica, Pionite, Nevamar. A Rail Robotics exhibit! This exhibit has an activity that involves the robot arm’s ability to do an automatic task faster and better than a human. The human user’s task is to manually control the arm through the same task hence the term “Challenge The Robot”. This exhibit also shows how the actions of the robot are governed by Boolean logic. The movement of the arm is divided up into program instruction sets based on input and output data and sequence. This is a popular exhibit. General Description; a 3-finger robotic arm exhibit that has two functions. 1– the robot arm performs an automated task, 2– the visitor performs the same task manually as a challenge to beat the robots performance. The challenge is between the manual robot arm that is being controlled by a human and the automatic arm being controlled by the robot’s electro-mechanical brain. The automatic arm picks up a ball and takes it to a number of target locations one by one, while letting it roll back to the starting point between targets. The challenge to the human user is to perform the exact sequence of movements as the automatic arm, without error, and at a faster rate. Please note that the challenge of this exhibit would have been won by the automated robotic arm seconds after it started if we had not given an advantage to the human user by setting the robot arm speed at a rate comparable to a human’s reflex time. This exhibit features a 35” long electromechanical robot arm mounted on a rail system that allows the arm to glide from one end of the exhibit to the other. The robot arm has five ranges of motions, pressure sensitive and end of travel limits and is made of light weight 6061 Aluminum. The hand opens and closes, wrist turns, elbow moves, as does the shoulder. The exhibit activity is totally encased by clear poly-carbonate. The electromechanical arm is designed in a totally open format which relates to STEM, all the parts and the key components that operate it are visible for maximum educational merit and based closely on the proportions of an actual human arm. It is especially designed with safety features and force limits. The arm is also usable for any age range of visitor. The exhibit is configured as a demonstration arm to illustrate remote handling applications for robotics. Remote handling robots are used by industry, aerospace and commercial establishments to extend human capabilities in hazardous situations. The exhibit challenges a visitor’s skill and dexterity while providing a unique format to study the engineering principles of a robot arm. The exhibit approximate measurements are 8’ long x 36" high x 35” wide. Click here for more information and images!

This exhibit is a 39" long robotic arm with a 180 degree shoulder, horizontal range of motion, complete with exhibit case, control panel and power supply. The fingers come in either black or white UHMW. This exhibit has 5 different voice repeater functions that explain different challenges the user can undertake. The exhibit is designed to be visually stunning, educational and usable by virtually any age of museum visitor. As with all of our robotics exhibits this exhibit also conveys a wide variety of elements that are important to STEM education. Each side of the upper frame of the exhibit is a window made of clear poly-carbonate to make it visible from all sides, making it ideal for mid floor locations. The arm is protected by limit controls and spring loaded for shock. The limit controls use simple logic to avoid over travel, as opposed to expensive and hard to repair computer guided systems. The wrist, shoulder and elbow ranges of motion are operated by two joystick assemblies. The exhibit is configured as a demonstration arm to illustrate remote handling applications for robotics. The arm has pressure sensitive and end of travel limits, and can adapt to any arrangement of objects stacked in its path. It is made of light weight 6061 Aluminum. This arm is totally open framed for educational viewing and based closely on the proportions of an actual human arm. The robot arm that fits in the case can either be our 5 finger arm that has 9 degrees of freedom, or our 3 finger arm that has 5 degrees of freedom. It is especially designed with safety features and force limits. The approximate size of the case is 72" high x 70" long x 44" wide. This complete exhibit includes a quality built electronic-electromechanical robot arm, fully enclosed exhibit case for the arm, support electronics, visual support materials, maintenance information and schedule, activities and control panel.
