MRISAR's Simulator Humanoid Interface Telepresence Robot
Be a Robot! Have a Humanoid Robot mimic your movements when you wear its telepresence interface! As you move the arms of the control system the robot will mimic your movements. This exhibit is similar to our Humanoid Telepresence Space Robot, which is a simpler version.
This exhibit relates to STEM education.
The electromechanical robot is designed in a totally open format which relates to STEM. All the parts and the key components that operate it are visible for maximum educational merit and based closely on the proportions of an actual human.
Telepresence is an effective technology for working in remote locations, with hazardous materials or for remotely controlled surveillance of an unknown environment. Telepresence is a method to extend human capabilities. The extension of capabilities can be the aspect of working from the remote locations but other factors also can come into play. These might also include such elements as increasing the ability of a person to remotely lift heavy objects or to work on fine detailed work such as in the case of robotic surgery. The aspect of working with very small, very large or very dangerous materials can be to an extreme in such applications. A few application examples are working in the cold vacuum of space, working with molten materials, radioactive materials, dangerous bio-hazard specimens or highly corrosive materials and chemicals with dangerous vapors.
