In this exhibit we explore the technologies that are making miniature applications for robotics possible. A number of models of miniature robots and robotic parts are included in the display along with text and enlarged views of certain key components. Part of the exhibit focuses from an electronics venue of thought with miniature electronic systems and parts as the key subject, while part of the exhibit covers elements of mobility such as electromagnetic induced motion, electromechanical actuators, electroactive polymers, piezo based generation, electric field induced propulsion and tactile elements. Also covered are aspects of power generation and power storage. Sensors are another topic presented as a robotics device must have sensory input to totally relate to its surroundings. In this respect sensors can for example be simple limits for ranges of motion, but other sensors for sound, light, vision and detection across the electromagnetic spectrum are possible elements to create lifelike interactions with surroundings. Some of the models have interactive features such as demonstrating some of the methods of locomotion, power management and generation and show some sensory elements in operation. With limited space to cover such a diversity of subjects (and many being small devices) we suggest combining this exhibit with others we produce to compliment the total effect. We also offer additional educational graphic panels to complement our exhibits and to further relate the transitions and ranges of subjects covered.
